Instituted 1 January 1915 by Grand Duke Adolf Friedrich VI. (1915 1923 issue). Constructed of a silvered alloy, consisting of a vaulted Cross Patte, the obverse with ribbed arms, bearing a central raised inscription of FR TAPFERKEIT (FOR BRAVERY) on a pebbled field, situated within a circular laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, the six oclock arm bearing a date of 1914, unmarked,
