Constructed of silvered brass, the obverse consisting of a circular laurel and oak leaf wreath, wrapped in a ribbon bearing an inscription of GRENZ SCHUTZ OST and a date of 1919, surrounding a central number 5 executed in a corresponding Roman numeral, the reverse with a narrow barrel hinge emanating from a raised platform and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but demonstrating the
