Constructed of bronzed, consisting of a vaulted Cross Patte, the obverse bearing a central raised monogram of Duke Ernst August, flanked by clusters of oak leaves, the six oclock arm bearing a war commencement date of 1914, the twelve oclock arm bearing a royal crown, the reverse with a wide barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch,
