These chairs are from Shanxi province in Northern China and are made from a mix of northern elm (yumu) and southern elm (jumu / zelkova) and were originally lacquered with a burgundy lacquer which has worn away in many parts

As well as local fauna & Flora it has the family planning motif of keluarga-berencana (KB)

This one is made from Teak and has excellent wood jali work panels

The turned finials to the upper corners add a subtle architectural detail

Chinese writing is also evident in the corners of the image panels
